Conceived as an orbiting workshop, Skylab embarked on a mission of scientific exploration, studying the effects of weightlessness on the human body, skylab one. Alas, its creators overlooked a critical detail: a graceful descent back to Earth. Devoid of control mechanisms, Skylab hurtled toward our planet, a 77-ton celestial vagabond. In a daring maneuver, engineers fired booster rockets, aiming for the Indian Ocean.
