Hubs?

Any chance I can use a yami hub with my 300 axles/outer joint? I've got some kodiak rear spindles for use during the IRS & lift, just wondering if I could save a little $ and use yami hubs instead of the seemingly higher price/value 300 front hubs and the jumper bearings I need to fit the two together.

I have no idea what the yami spline count or size is, just figured you guys who have actually worked with custom lifts might know.

...and yes, I know having Turner build me some custom axles would be best, but I'm going with sleeved stockers for now and plan to upgrade as needed.

anyone?

I was also thinking of buying yami half-shaft and an extra outer joint. Since I'm p[lanning on sleeving athe axles anyway, I figured I could use half of the yami shaft and a yami outer joint on each rear axle, which would also leave me with a pair of honda outer joints and a shaft from which to build me driveshaft from. - logically, that route may make the most sense.

whilst I'm at it, any of you guys ever try the kodiak rear spindles instead of the grizzly rears? They're offset out a bit, seems they put the a-arm pivots fairly square with the cv cup pivot.

Looking at a set on evilbay right now, may go that route, along with a yami half-shaft and spare outer joint as previously mentioned.

the kodiak and grizz still have the same spindle(axle diameter and length) I think!
I have a set of kodiak hubs that I stuck my grizz axles in and it looked the same...other than the offset.. My buddy also borrowed them for his big bear when his bearings went bad... personally, i think kodiac knuckles are as good as the grizz.

as for the hubs and spindles, the splines are different.. you could so the half shaft swap you spoke of, but by the time you buy a half shaft youd be at the same price as just buying the 300 parts

a suggestion would be to find a set of foreman 450 or 500 or rincon hubs & spindles(preferably with disc brakes) and keep it all honda on the front. youll have to use foreman ball joints cuz they are bigger...

if ya want it to match your ball joints the go with 420 spindles and hubs.

First off, thanks for the input and sorry for the long posts. I'm trying to be as detailed as possible as I know how things can be misconstrued through typing and the net.

- You mentioned an offset difference in grizzly vs kodiak rear hubs, which is which? - I'm looking to keep the bike as skinny as possible to not kill my trail riding.

I am planning to use all the stock 300 stuff up front, just custom arms and sleeved axles. I haven't had much trouble with it as is, with the ball joints and tie rods just under max angle. Figured just build the arms to extend what I have, and re-angle the ball joint plates to make them happier.

All I'm trying to figure out is the back. I already have a good front diff that I flipped the vent and drain on, and I already have a good pair of stock 300 front axles. I just need some spindles and hubs for the rear, and a driveshaft. I do have one 05/06 kodiak rear spindle; scored it cheap enough that it wouldn't matter if I ended up not using it.

The '05/06 kodaik rear spindles are "" shaped, vs the grizzly spindles which are basically flat. The kodi spindles have the upper and lower bushings/pivots set inward, in-line with the pivot point of the outer cv cup.

As near as I can tell from checking specs on various yami rear outer cv joints they use the same outer cv; 27 splines, 40mm sealing diameter, and an over-all length of 136.1mm. The only "curve ball" seems to be the '03 grizzlys that came with the 23 spline axle shafts instead of the more comon 17 spline. - The comon front cv joint seems to be 27 spline, but has a 38mm sealing diameter and and overall length of 151.2mm, thus it would be different than the rears.

Riding mostly mud and water, I haven't really liked the idea of a u-joint driveshaft, thus no matter how I go I need at least one more cv axle shaft and a pair of outer joints.

With what I already have and being able find the kodiak spindles cheaper than the grizz stuff it just seemed logical to pick up a pair of yami hubs, either a pair or one more spindle, and one grizz/kodi rear axle along with one extra outer joint. - Basically cut all the shafts in the center; sleeve my honda inners with a shaft for the yami outers to make the axles, and use the honda outers for a cv driveshaft from the motor to the diff.

As for brakes, I'm thinking about putting a single disc on the rear driveshaft. The bike is full-time 4wd(no 424) thus I figured one brake with the differential gearing to multiply it's leverage would be the way to go, plus keep it out of stuff longer(higher mounted).

You described the offset perfectly.

This we can do. maybe with your stock honda axles...

fyi some of the kodiak hubs have a brake mount on them but i dont know whick years(maybe a 450 grizz)idk.

ima pm you my number holler at me @ 6ish your time and ill check what i have and see if we can put something together..

Just caught this message today. - I'll give you a call this evening @ 6ish.

If you've got some parts I need that you'd be willing to sell, I'd be interested.

Thanks,
- Jp
