Alright guys, I'm making some changes and finally have the time to do the build I've intended to for my 300.
Currently stock bore/stroke in very good shape(compression and leak down test are great). Ported head, 1.5 head pipe w/ stock harley muffler(one cylinder of which is 725cc), typical k&n/snorkle/proper jetting, and bracket lift. It's on 26x9.5 vamps front, and 26x12.50 swamp pros(think vamp, but 6 ply and more side lug) rear. - I have the EX gear reduction in the works right now(gotmuddy from HL has my stuff and is setting it up). We ride in some pretty thick stuff, w/o the GR my 26's have gotten the best of the bike when I get much past the frame in the slop. It will break them loose doing a gear drop, but cannot always keep them spinning.
The bike is splattered and on my fab table now. IRS conversion + lift; using a flipped front diff. For now I'm going to sleeve some stock axles, but I'm using the specs from superatv's rincon lift axle shafts(inexpensive extended shafts if the sleeved units don't hold). Lift should be roughly in the 4-6" range keeping the joints in the 30-35* range. It will be spooled out back, and have a DGL up front, no 424. I'm planning to run 4 front wheels(12x6 independant offset) and 10" wide silverbacks.
Now the question; Do you guys think it will do alright with 28's, or would I be best to stick with 27's? I may possibly in the future have around 6mm of stroke added to make it a true 300 if needed, but was not really looking to do that as of right now. - I've talked to a few decently knowledgable people on HL that seem to think it will do fine with the skinny 28's, I was just looking for more input from people who I'm sure have real world knowledge.
Thanks again, - Jp

but i had a BONE stock 300 with only a uni filter and it had 27s on it
in first gear it would pull them pretty good.. but in any other gear it was done for so im sure if you do them small mods that your talking about it wouldnt be too bad with some 28 skinnys on it if you ask me..
But you may wanna keep asking some of the dang four wheeler gurus on this website haha!
I've already had everything but the GR, and I have run into situations where the current 26's were too much for it even in "SL". - We often ride some very thick swamp stuff; I've seen plenty of big bore bikes bogged down if they over-tire.

Yeah if you ride a lot of that think gunk mud or clay i would just stick with getting some 27s.. I had times with a tri/bi claw combo mudmachines on the 300 in stuff that it just kills it.. where they we re barely spinning.. but yet if i kept them turning they were good as long as they kept on turning.. and it was bone stock
do you think 25in by 13 rear vampires would be a bad idea? im not in swamp mud but it does get thick at times. oh and 25in by 9.5 fronts

Hopefully my 26's will give me a good enough idea before I drop the $.
hondaspartan300 - wide 25's will fine with typical "bolt-on" mods like a filter, pipe, and the corresponding re-jet. My rear 26's are pretty heavy, being 6-ply.
